10/07/2017, Paris: Following the conclusion of the G20 Hamburg Summit, the Chairman of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) has issued the following statement.

Sunil Bharti Mittal said:

“We commend the German Presidency’s leadership in securing an outcome to the G20 Hamburg Summit which emphasises the importance of international cooperation in tackling global challenges. Economic integration is a central force in lifting millions out of poverty. But enhanced global rules and strong multilateral institutions are vital to ensure that globalization benefits all.

“The G20 leaders rightly emphasise the central role of digitisation and mobile connectivity in driving sustainable development and inclusive growth. We call on the G20 to move forward expeditiously on its commitments to harness the power of the Internet as a force for economic empowerment and social benefit. With strong leadership, the G20 Hamburg Summit can act as the starting point to chart a new course for inclusive globalisation and sustainable development.

“Strengthening and modernizing the rules-based, multilateral trading system must be a central objective for G20 leaders in the coming months. Global business stands ready to work with all governments to deliver on the G20 pledge to secure a successful outcome to the World Trade Organization’s next Ministerial Conference this December.”
