On the 9th of October, ICC Albania organised the workshop entitled “Translating SDGs into business”. Executive leaders and experts from the public and private sectors came together on this event to highlight potential initiatives on how business and the government can best cooperate to meet sustainable development goals.

The workshop was set by Mrs. Ardita Seknaj, General Secretary of ICC Albania, saying that the Sustainable Development Goals are not only governments’ responsibilities but far more include all stakeholders where the business community plays a fundamental role in the achievement of the goals.

Mrs. Nuriona Berdica, Advisor of the Deputy Prime Minister, while addressing her remarks stated that ‘’We have to build a sustainable informative and raise awareness process with the business community. We fully understand that SDGs cannot be achieved alone and that the role of the private sector is instrumental. For that reason the Deputy Prime Minister’s willingness is to strengthen the ties with the private sector in this aspect.

Mrs. Fioralba Shkodra, Head of UN Resident Coordinator’s office in Albania provided a full overview of the UN engagements in the achievement of the SDGs agenda. Mr. Eno Ngjela, Programme Analyst at UNDP highlighted the necessity to demonstrate concrete actions of SDG endorsement by the private sector. Private sector actions should be measurable and addressing specific targets under a specific goal.

During the discussions, the participants provided examples from their own network and asked questions about the engagement of the private sector with SDGs, methodologies used to measure targets and what could be next steps to be incurred in this field.

The event provided a rich platform for dialogue between stakeholders where were discussed future collaboration opportunities and the undertaking of immediate action in this field.
